Ventura Celebrates Groundbreaking of Villages at Westview

VENTURA, CA, February 2, 2017—The City of San Buenaventura today will celebrate the groundbreaking of the first phase of Villages at Westview, a partnership between the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura and nonprofit BRIDGE Housing to redevelop Westview Village as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration program.

Over the four phases of development, a total of 180 units of public housing will be transformed into 320 new affordable apartments and for-sale homes. In the first phase of construction, which is anticipated to be complete in June 2018, 72 deteriorated public housing units will be replaced with 131 modern affordable one- to four-bedroom apartments.

“The Housing Authority is proud to partner with BRIDGE Housing in beginning the Phase I development of the Villages at Westview, a project that has been driven by 10 years of planning and community outreach,” said Denise M. Wise, CEO of the Housing Authority. “The vision of increasing density while achieving more current design standards will help the Housing Authority meet the needs of today’s low-income families.”

“This is an exciting opportunity to revitalize and expand housing opportunities in Ventura,” said Cynthia A. Parker, President and CEO of BRIDGE Housing. “We are proud to partner with the Housing Authority in delivering quality and affordability to the Westside community.”

Financing for the $59 million first phase is being provided by Citibank, N.A.; Enterprise Community Investment; the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee; and the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee. The Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura is the owner and property manager.
