Childcare Services

CHESTNUT LINDEN COURT

Quality child care is directly related to the need for affordable housing. Providing childcare facilities and services in conjunction with an affordable home allows our adult residents to work, return to school, and receive job training, while their preschool children receive reliable care in a safe and comfortable neighborhood setting.

In recent years, making child care easily accessible and affordable to our residents has become an increasingly important component of our work and an integral part of each large-scale family development we build. Through a special grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, we have been able to advance our capacity to build new childcare centers and partner with experienced providers to create sustainable services and to publish a Child Care Handbook as a tool for housing developers. Examples of our childcare services include:

  • BRIGDE partnered with provider Kidango Inc. to offer an on-site childcare facility at Chestnut Linden Court in West Oakland.
  • At Acorn Town Center and Courtyards in West Oakland, we rehabilitated a community space at the Courtyards to best accommodate the neighborhood Headstart program.
  • In Marin City, we designed and built family rental developments with facilities for local daycare providers.
  • In East Palo Alto, we masterplanned a new community that included free land and construction funding for a new community daycare facility.
  • At One Church Street Apartments in San Francisco, BRIDGE partnered with Cross Cultural Family Centers to create a space to serve the property and its neighborhood’s lower-income toddlers and preschoolers.
  • At North Beach Place, there is a childcare center onsite.
